Visiting an openair market, happening once a week in the trulli town, is a must during your stay here. The market day in Alberobello is Thursday, except for holidays, and it lasts from 7:30 am till 12:30 pm. Nowadays it's more picturesque part, dedicated to food, is situated in Via Barsento street.
The crawling streets, the sounds and the vivid colours make this weekly event characteristic. Local season fruits, legumes, pickled olives and nuts can be bought for really favorable prices. Here you will have your first language lesson and find out that for each vegetable there are two terms: one in Italian and another in local dialect. The sellers usually offer the tasting as well and then thank you, smiling, for the purchase.
Our friend, Harumi from Japan came to the market with us and shares her experience in this video.
Take a break in the nearby bakery Panificio Profumi dal ponte to taste focaccia bread, panzerotti hot pockets and delicious handmade sweets.
Good to know: in Alberobello market day corresponds to the day off of te local shops, so most of them remain closed in the afternoon on Thursdays.
